The voluntary Excellence Criteria of AQTF 2007 are now ready to be trialled.

The Excellence Criteria focus on encouraging and recognising overall high performance in training providers. They build upon many of the aspects of the Essential Standards for Registration, including high quality learning and assessment, client focus, and engagement of industry and communities. They seek evidence of co-ordinated and strategic approaches to quality and continuous improvement across all aspects of an organisation.

AQTF 2007 Excellence Criteria and associated explanatory materials will be available to all providers to support their ongoing continuous improvement approach. The criteria will bring many benefits for providers, assisting in building capability to provide high quality products and services and better meet stakeholder's needs, whilst accelerating improvement in overall performance. Opportunities for formal evaluation against the Excellence Criteria will be available to registered training organisations as a voluntary activity, on a fee-for-service basis, although this fee will be waived for the 2008 trial. Formal evaluation will provide the opportunity of receiving public recognition as being 'quality committed' or 'outstanding'. The AQTF 2007 Excellence Criteria should reflect the diversity and best practice already evident in the Australian VET sector.

Trial of the AQTF 2007 Excellence Criteria

The Excellence Criteria offer RTOs an opportunity to voluntarily evaluate and improve their performance through internally focused activities and to apply for formal recognition through an independent external evaluation. The formal recognition is Awards to RTOs as either Quality Committed or Outstanding.

The Trial will involve fifteen RTOs (5 each of large, medium and small providers) from around Australia, and will be conducted over the first half of 2008. The RTOs selected will not be asked to meet the costs of the external evaluation that will be conducted as part of the Trial.

Participation in the trial

Applications to participate in the Trial of the AQTF 2007 Excellence Criteria were made on-line to the Trial Administrator (TVET Australia). Applications for the trial have closed.
