What are skill sets?

Skill sets are a new way of recognising small ‘chunks’ of skills. Examples are the competencies required for a restricted electrical licence or to meet the competency component of registration as a marriage celebrant. They appear in all industries and across all levels of work. Until recently, they have been hard to identify within the national vocational education and training system, but recent decisions by the National Quality Council (NQC) will see them more widely used and understood.

Skill sets are defined by the NQC as:

"Those single units or combinations of units which link to a license or regulatory requirement, or defined industry need."
