Vocational and TAFE government funded courses in Victoria

If you meet the eligibility criteria, the government may pay for your training course – either partly or fully. This payment goes directly to the training provider on enrolment, covering tuition fees. You may still have to pay for other costs like study materials, student services, and amenities fees.

Funding in Victoria covers a range of vocational training courses, from certificate III and certificate IVs to advanced diplomas. It also subsidises accredited short courses (skill sets) for targeted upskilling and pre-apprenticeship pathway courses (certificate IIs).

Government funded courses are available wherever you are in VIC, from the heart of Melbourne to regional areas. Schemes are available to Australian citizens and permanent residents, and some are open to New Zealand citizens and asylum seekers.

Eligible students can study government funded courses online or on-campus in Melbourne, Victoria, through a TAFE institute or a private training provider. Only some training providers (or RTOs) are approved for subsidies, and only some courses can be funded. The rest are fee-for-service, meaning that you (or your employer) pay the full cost.
